Local Craft Fair

I had a brilliant day at a local craft fair on Sunday, it was in Rugby at The Benn Hall. This was actually one of the closest events to home that I've ever exhibited, I usually go for bigger events but I was very impressed with this one. A good number of people were flowing through the door all day, and I sold lots of items so was very pleased. I sold a few of my newest favourite pieces, and I was happy about it of course, but now I'll have to make some more similar :)

My stall was situated in front of the stage so I could use it as extra display space which was a bonus. There were free craft workshops for children which was a great idea, because it meant parents could shop at their leisure! There were some lovely stalls and I met some more interesting people. It's funny what you find out when you get talking. Because this was a local event, I also saw the ceramics tutor from the college I went to and she bought 2 vases. That was a nice compliment!

I sell a lot of my ceramics in galleries and online, but I love being able to get my work seen more at craft fairs and similar events. Its great to meet customers, see their reactions and hear their comments. Sometimes I have a notepad under the table and jot down comments that people say about my work and the stall, its nice to look back on. My mum came to the event and bought a felt collage in a chunky wooden frame from another stall, and the stall holder asked her: "Would you mind telling me why you chose that one?" ...What a good idea for finding out customer feedback - Simple but effective!

I'm really looking forward to my next craft fair in 2 weeks - Its the Contemporary Craft Shopping Experience at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre near Leamington. I've got a feeling its going to be another successful event, the organiser has done a great job and spent a lot of time organising and promoting it. Let me know if you would like any leaflets. If you are in the area come along on Sunday 22nd November, and make sure you introduce yourself!

Christmas is coming!

I thought it was snowing the other day after a quick glimpse out of the window, but it was leaves falling from the trees! I can't wait til Christmas, its my favourite time of year. I've made these tree decorations and glazed them with a shiny red glaze, and a volcanic crater glaze which looks a bit like snow. I kept to simple shapes - just trees and stars.

I'm hoping to sell my new handmade decorations at the craft fairs I'm doing leading up to Christmas, and I'll also list some in my online shops.
I've hung the decorations on this useful stand that I've covered in tinsel, I think it looks quite effective.

Trip to Germany

I had a fascinating stay in Germany last weekend, where I visited several towns and villages.

My favourite experience was the trip in Rudesheim. The tour started with a cable car ride, gliding over the sloping vineyards and looking out from above onto the gigantic panorama. The view of the river Rhine was amazing, its so big. There were many cargo ships sailing along.

I loved the colours of the vineyards that filled almost every patch of land below.

When we reached the top we carried on with a walk through the peaceful forest trails, passing wonderful vantage points through the Jagdschloss hunting lodge, game reserve, and the Niederwald Monument.

From there we took an open chair lift down through the forest and over the steep vineyards to Assmannshausen, where you can look across the narrow, curved Rhine Valley to the Rheinstein Castle.

The chair lift was so exciting, at one point the trees just opened up and the view was amazing! It was also quite scary at one point where it gets really steep. Some people who passed us on the other side were holding a little dog on their lap!

The village where we got off is famous for its red wine, romantic alleys, wine bars and taverns. I was really impressed by the style of the houses, each one is so unique with its own characteristics. The local people were also very friendly and helpful.

At the end of the day we took a cruise ship back to the starting point which was all included on the tour.

Overall I enjoyed the whole experience although it was very tiring as there was so much to fit in. The views were one of the best bits, there is a lot of empty land everywhere.

…..The other best bits were the wine and the traditional food was lovely too, but I had way too much of it!

Fun with fruit!

Now that the festive season is looming ahead, I wanted to prepare some natural decorations for my stall at my Christmas craft fairs coming up. I dried out these oranges and limes yesterday, the smell was delicious! I think they will look great with a few displayed in bowls here and there. I'll also be using my usual natural decorations such as pine cones, shells and holly.

I couldn't resist using these frosted red berries to display in my vases, they give off a real Christmassy feel. They are displayed in one of my vases at home when I'm not using them as props at fairs, and Molly (the cat) has just discovered them so I don't think there will be many berries left soon!

I know its not quite Halloween yet, but I decided to carve my pumpkin early, although he's not very scary........

My new selection of work will finally be going in the kiln soon, so watch this space!

My Magnets in new Sample Box

I've been busy preparing these sets of magnets to go into a new sample box concept, run by Belinda of Shop Handmade UK.

Each pack comes with 3 different magnets, wrapped up in cellophane with my card and sealed with my stickers. This should be a great promotional concept and will hopefully get my products noticed more. I believe the first batch of boxes will be for sale online via Folksy within the next couple of weeks - Keep a look out! Not only will the purchaser of a box receive some lovely gifts for themselves, but also some little potential Christmas gifts for family and friends. All items will be visible inside the boxes so the purchaser will know exactly what they will be getting.

I'm really excited about seeing my magnets alongside other designers work in these boxes. Let me know if you buy a box and receive my products!
